I wanted to stop making these corona posts but I have couple things I want to say. Before getting into them I am glad I live in Finland where government takes this seriously and listens scientists and experts. They change their approach when new information comes up. Currently it seem gaining herd immunity is not possibly without crazy death toll. Read earlier today post from two weeks back which explained it. Now when data suggests the same Finland tries to get rid of the disease. It is easier here where people don’t feel their liberties are more important than others’ lives and we can buy toasters without wearing masks.
To Sweden. Sweden tries to gain herd immunity with letting disease spreading controlled. This strategy expects having disease would give you immunity for the future. That has been assumption but I haven’t heard it proven anywhere. There were talks of cases where people got sick again after having the disease earlier. Back then it was explained by poor tests. So far we don’t know for sure if having the disease gives you immunity and for how long it gives it if it does. Sweden’s death toll is much higher than other Nordic countries’. Sweden tell itself others will reach it numbers but I am not so sure about that. It looks possible to get rid of the disease in Finland. Latest tests showed it was contained better than expected here.
We will probably get less interviews of the architect of Swedish strategy telling how we will have similar death toll in future. Sweden’s strategy also expect there won’t be any new life saving treatments discovered in near future. Sweden just made few assumptions. One is not proven to be right and other is already proven wrong to small extent. To some Sweden’s way is preferred to those of countries who have contained the disease.
Then to country whose latest strategy seems to be blame Obama. I would have expected guy whose slogan was make America great again to do something and not blame Obama for something he has had over three years to fix. No I didn’t expect that. From get go it was clear Trump was rich tourist who wanted to play president of United States. I have already blocked him on Twitter because I don’t want to lose my faith in humanity. Anyone who reads his tweets knows he is not suitable for the job he has. Even Trump blocked my Twitter feed is full of what stupid thing he has done now.
Future historians will have gold mine with Trump presidency. Biggest question is why others let this thing go so long. Our president would be in big problems if he did even one of the most stupid things Trump has done. I can’t understand how United States can watch this disaster and do nothing. I don’t understand people who try to make sense what Trump tries to say. You can’t trust anything that man says and he doesn’t take any responsibility of anything.
I might be brainwashed citizen of Nordic welfare state but I don’t understand protests against corona measures in United States. People without universal healthcare who could ruin their personal finances if they got sick protest against measures meant to prevent Corona. I understand they want economy to open but it doesn’t get back to what it was before if there is pandemic. All they get is more deaths and potentially it takes longer for economy to recovery. Then again these same people cheer when environmental regulations are loosened and businesses can ruin their health for profit. People who like to talk about freedom don’t respect freedom to live healthy life. Freedom to ruin it seems to be more important freedom. Can you be free if others can take your freedoms away with their freedoms?
United States have lead daily deaths for some time. United Kingdom was second for some time until Brazil took that place. Anyone want to guess what common these countries have?
